While bed bugs do not have the ability to fly or jump that many parasites possess, they are still a very annoying pest.

These tiny creatures will come out of hiding at night to feast on human blood. Although it seems unlikely that they transmit disease, allergic reactions tobed bug bitesthey have been reported in rare cases, and secondary infections can develop from scratching the affected area.

Bedbugsthey have a reputation for being stubborn residents when it comes to removing them from their property. However, the market is full of pest control products that claim to solve the problem. If you've been thinking about trying one, read my Hot Shot Bed Bug Fogger review first.

Hot Shot Bed Bug Fogger Review: Honest Opinion

Overall Score: 3.9 out of 5. Not enough to fight the infestation alone, but can be used with the products listed below.

Hot Shot specializes in insect control and offers a wide range of treatments for ants, roaches, spiders and flying insects. Their line of bed bugs includes various formulations, from aerosols to interceptors. Our focus today, however, is the nebulizer variety.

Effectiveness

According to the manufacturer's website, the Bedbug & Flea Fogger is active against a number of pests including fleas, ticks, lice, and bed bugs. This is accomplished usingpyrethrins and pyrethroids, together with synergists to increase the effectiveness of pesticides. Combining actual pesticides with synergists has long been a common practice in pest control.

Additionally, the formula includes Nylar®, a widely used insect growth regulator that is included to prevent larvae from developing to the adult stage (note that the manufacturer does not include any information on its effectiveness against bed bugs).

On a scale of 1 to 5, I find that this product measures3 in terms of efficiency. Unfortunately, I did find a number of live bugs after applying according to the Hot Shot Bed Bug Fogger instructions.

In itsGuide to systematically combat bed bugs, the manufacturer indicates that the nebulizer should be combined with other formulations for a better effect. It is also necessary to vacuum the house thoroughly and expose the bedding to a high temperature treatment. While I agree with these recommendations, it is quite frustrating when a product that is a bit difficult to use (see Ease of Use section below) is not really effective on its own.

Precio

What I like about this product is that it is relatively affordable. Priced at less than $15 at the time I bought it, one pack will cover 3 x 2000 cubic feet, which is the equivalent of three rooms measuring 15.5ft x 16ft if your ceiling is 8ft high.

It's not the cheapest treatment of all, though, especially when you factor in the fact that you typically want a whole-house solution. With that being said I did rate the price of the Hot Shot Bed Bug Fogger4.5 out of 5.

Easy to use

In case you're not sure what the word "fogger" might mean, the product is essentially abug pump for bed bugsand fleas. What you should do is activate the container by blocking the valve and leave it on a support in the center of the room for two hours.

Sounds simple, right? However, you must take a series of precautions, such as covering any surface that may come into contact with food, wooden furniture, etc. Most of the Hot Shot Bedbug and Flea Fogger reviews mention that safety measures take a long time, so the brand4 out of 5.

Security

Hot Shot for bed bugs is not exactly what you call safe. May be toxic to humans and animals if absorbed through the skin and may cause allergic reactions. In their section on how to use the bed bug fogger, the manufacturer insists that you not enter the room for two hours after treatment.

Since precautions are common with insecticides, I rated the safety parameter4 out of 5.

Advantages:Contras:
  • affordable;
  • relatively easy to use;
  • Safe if used according to instructions.
  • not 100% effective;
  • need a lot of precautions.

Buyers Guide

Now that you've read my Hot Shot Bed Bug Bomb review, you might want to find out how to choose a solution that really works for you.

First of all, you need to decide on the formulation. In addition to foggers or pumps, common chemical treatments include sprays andbed bug powder. Such products can be extremely effective when treating tight areas like crevices, which is important as bed bugs are generally very solitary creatures. However, foggers may be convenient if you have a large property with signs of a massive infestation.

Hot Shot Bed Bug Fogger Review (2023 Updated) (5)

The main advantage of the powder over the spray is that it usually has a longer period of action. For example, diatomaceous earth powder remains active for up to 4 weeks. As a bonus, it is absolutely safe for pets and humans as long as it is food grade.

Unfortunately, bed bugs tend to stray when they detect dust. For this reason, some brands combine diatomaceous earth with insecticides to compensate. This also means that the product may no longer be suitable for pets and children.

Bed Bug Spraysthey can be a safer alternative as long as they have a natural composition. However, many brands prefer chemical insecticides, either natural like pyrethrins or artificial pyrethroids.

Although many people believe that the approach is more effective, there are a number of less radical products that show excellent results compared to what are commonly described as harsh chemicals. As a general rule, it is advisable to resort to herbal treatments if you have children or pets on your property.

Foam, like Raid Max Bed Bug Crack & Crevice Extended Protection Foaming Spray, combines the long-lasting action of powder with the added convenience of a spray. According to the label, it will keep your floor bug-free for up to 8 weeks. A comparison between the Hot Shot bed bug killer and the Raid showed that the latter is much more effective, leaving almost no bugs alive after spot treatment (combined withVacuuming, which I also did for the Hot Shot product).

As this is not a botanical formula, direct contact with the skin and eyes should be avoided, and the manufacturer recommends covering any food. Still, the product is safe to use on mattresses (though not bedding).

If you are inclined to natural compositions, I can recommend two products that are effective but are suitable for pets and children.

EcoRaider vs Hot Shot

Hot Shot Bed Bug Fogger Review (2023 Updated) (9)

HeEcoRaider Bed Bug Killer Sprayuses plant-derived insecticides to quickly kill bed bug adults and eggs. It also offers residual protection for up to 2 weeks. What I like about this product is that it doesn't need any time consuming precautions and it does a great job of keeping bugs away while causing little to no skin irritation even on direct contact.

Hot Shot Concepts vs. MDX

No products were found.

Alternatively, you can use the slightly more expensive bed bug plaster spray from MDX Concepts, based on peppermint and spearmint oil. This easy-to-use product is extremely effective at killing bed bugs and harmless to children and pets.

Finally, it's always a good idea to use a steam cleaner on carpets and mattresses to get rid of bed bugs, as heat is something that kills critters very quickly. This method does not involve chemicals and can be combined with most other treatments.

Frequently asked questions

Are foggers effective against bed bugs?

Bed bug foggers may be a reasonable solution if you have a massive infestation over a large area. In this case, you'll need to combine the pump with spot treatments like foam or crack and crevice spray while applying intense heat to textiles like bedding and carpeting.

¿Funciona Hot Shot Bed Bug Fogger?

Hot Shot Bed Bug Fogger Review (2023 Updated) (11)

It does, but to a limited extent. You'll likely see live bugs after application unless you also use a spray, powder, or foam to kill them in tight spots like crevices or repeat the treatment multiple times (which is nearly impossible given the procedure). This is definitely not a single recommended treatment.

How long should I leave the house after applying Hot Shot Fogger?

The manufacturer provides detailed instructions on its website on the safety precautions to take when using the nebulizer. According to the management, you will need to leave the property for 2 hours before opening the windows for a further 2 hours. He also mentions that a longer wait time might be necessary if you can still smell it.

What should I do if I inhale the nebulizer?

Although the manufacturer does not provide detailed inhalation instructions, it is generally accepted that you should seek medical attention after breathing in a significant amount of pesticide. Otherwise, toxic reactions are possible. The first step to take, however, is to get outside and get some fresh air. Your symptoms may soon go away if the reaction is not severe.

summarizing

With an overall rating of 3.9, I find the Hot Spot Bed Bug Fogger to be ineffective as a stand-alone treatment, but affordable and relatively easy to use should you want to combine it with crack formulations like the spray. Keep in mind that you'll need to stay off your property for at least 2 hours, and don't forget to read the label for the full list of precautions if you decide to use it.

Do you have any bad experiences with nebulizers? If yes, then you can share it in the comment section below so that others can learn from your mistakes.
